Tales Are Told This Way

Knowledge comes through open windows
families sit in play
women gather girlhood memories
tales are told this way

Strings are passed in rhythmic sharing
from the mother to the child
Cup and Saucer, Jacobs Ladder
Cat’s Cradle travels many miles

As a child I was taught them
little did I know
reenacting sitting circle
rituals of old

Generations passing knowledge
it was just a game
friendships, laughter, bonded sisters
unspoken just the same

Narrow paths lead one to wonder
what takes place across the sea
ancient cultures sitting circle
passing strings in harmony

Women reaching points of aging
wisdom in the crone
bringing back the ancient memories
to the children they are shown
